October 25(?), 1987 - 60 miles off Madeira Island - 60 miles off Madeira, the trimaran capsizes and the Tabarly brothers have to stay over the hull waiting to be rescued. The "Côte d'Or II" Is towed to Funchal By Portuguese fishermen
October 27, 1987 - Paris - Appears on set of TF1 television news in Paris
August 1(?), 1988 - Brest, France(?) - Promoted to Capitaine de Fregate of the Naval reserves
April 23, 1989 - Lorient, France - Takes part in the two handed "Transat en Double", a two handed race from Lorient, round Bermuda and Back to France without stopping. His boat was the new generation "Bottin Enterprise"
May 7, 1989 - St.Barthélèmy, Antilles - Tabarly reaches St.Barthélèmy in 2nd place
May 16, 1989 - St.Barthélèmy - Sails for the second leg of the race, back to Lorient
May 21, 1989 - 400 miles West of the Azores - During the outward leg, while leading the race on the way home, they capsize. Tabarly is thrown out and fractures his collar bone. He manages to swim back to the upturned hull and climb back on board. He is picked up by a panamanian freighter 6 hours later
July 19, 1989 - While in La Trinité-sur-Mer(?) - "Pen Duick" is restored is presented at the Fêtes de la Liberté in Rouen

December 4, 1993 - 427 miles east of Kerguelen Island, Southern Indian Ocean - The "Brooksfield" activates a distress beacon during a huge storm with winds of 112km/h. While leading the race, "La Poste" diverts 160km (100 miles) off course, reaching the stricken italian yacht to offer assistance
January 8, 1994 - Freemantle, Australia - Whitbread Round the World Race - Leg 3 begins. Daniel Mallé hands over his post as skipper of the "La Poste" to Éric Tabarly
February 19, 1994 - Auckland, New Zealand - Whitbread Round the World Race - Leg 4 begins

June 10(?), 1998 - La Trinité-sur-Mer - Tabarly sails with "Pen Duick" for Scotland, to participate in a meeting of boats designed by William Fife.
June 13, 1998 - Irish Sea, off Wales - During the night of April 12-13, while lowering the mainsail and preparing to hoist storm sails, the boat lurches and Éric Tabarly is hit by the gaff and knocked overboard, drowning in the Irish Sea, aged 66 =(END)
