Noel de Medeiros Rosa (Rio de Janeiro, December 11, 1910 - Rio de Janeiro, May 4, 1937) was a brazilian samba composer, singer, guitarist, and one of the biggest and most important music artists in Brazil. He made a fundamental contribution to the legitimation of "Hilltop samba" and in "asphalt", that is, between the middle class and the radio, the main means of communication in his time - a fact of great importance, not only for samba, but for the history of popular Brazilian Music. He died prematurely at the age of 26 due to tuberculosis, and left a set of songs that became classics within the Brazilian popular songbook. In 2016 he was awarded in memoriam with the Order of Cultural Merit of Brazil, as Grand Master.
