Chief Marshal of Aviation Ivan Kozhedub (June 8, 1920 – August 8, 1991) was a Soviet military aviator and a World War II fighter ace. Kozhedub took a part in the Korean War as a commander of the 324th Fighter Air Division. He is credited with 64 +2 (P-51) individual air victories, most of them flying the Lavochkin La-5 – the top scoring fighter pilot on the Allied side during World War II. However, in his autobiography, shortly before his death, Kozhedub explained the incident with great detail: When the camera films were revealed, the main moments of combat with the mustangs were shown very clearly. The films were seen by the command of the Regiment, the Division and the Air Corps. Savitskiy, the division commander, told Kozhedub: "These victories are already in your account for the next war." Pavel Fedorovich Chupikov, the Regiment's commander, gave the films to Kozhedub, saying: "Take them Ivan, and do not show them to anyone"
