Francisco Pizarro | Timeline

Francisco Pizarro González (circa 1471 or 1476 – 26 June 1541) was a Spanish conquistador. He led an expedition that conquered the Inca Empire. He captured and killed Incan emperor Atahualpa and claimed the lands for Spain.

March 16, 1478 - Trujillo, Castilla and León - Francisco Pizarro González is born
February 1(?), 1502 - Seville - Nicolás de Ovando puts together a fleet of 32 ships and 2,500 men (1,500 colonists, mostly nobles). Sailing down the Guadalquivir River from Seville to Sanlúcar de Barrameda, youngsters Hernán Cortés, Francisco Pizarro, Ponce de León and Bartolomé de las Casas go on the expedition =(START)
February 13, 1502 - Seville - Pizarro sets sail to the Indies in Nicolás de Ovando's expedition
April 15, 1502 - Santo Domingo, Hispaniola - Nicolás de Ovando arrives in Santo Domingo
November 10, 1509 - Santo Domingo - Pizarro joins Alonso de Ojeda's expedition to Colombia =(crossofburgundyflag)
December 1(?), 1509 - Bahia de Calamar, Cartagena, Colombia - Landing at Bahia de Calamar (Calamar Bay)
September 1, 1513 - Santa María, West of Colombia (frontier region) - Pizarro serves as Vasco Núñez de Balboa's lieutenant in the Exploration of the Pacific Coast
September 6(?), 1513 - Careta, East Panama (frontier) - Another 1,000 men join the expedition
September 24, 1513 - Inland Panama - The Spanish advance into the jungle on 20th, then on the 24th of September confrontation with natives begin. On 25th they see the stunning view of the huge Pacific Ocean.
September 29, 1513 - San Miguel Bay, Pacífic Ocean - Balboa and Pizarro reach the Pacific Ocean
October 4(?), 1513 - Las Perlas Archipelago - Balboa and Pizarro reach the Las Perlas Archipelago aboard canoes
November 1(?), 1513 - Las Perlas Archipelago - Balboa decides to return to Santa María
December 1, 1513 - San Blas Gulf, Caribbean coast - The expedition returns to the Caribbean coast
January 19, 1514 - Santa María, East of Panama - Return to Santa Maria
January 2(?), 1519 - Acla, near Santa María, East of Panama - Pizarro arrests Balboa 
January 15, 1519 - Near Santa María, East of Panama - Vasco Núñez de Balboa is beheaded along with four another friends accused of being accomplices
November 14, 1524 - Panama City - Pizarro departs from Panama City with 112 men, to explore the Pacific Coast
August 18, 1527 - Ballenita beaches, Equador coast - Pizarro lands in Equador
September 13, 1527 - Gallo Island, Las Perlas Archipelago, Panama
October 1, 1527 - Gorgona Island, Colombia - Pizarro spends seven months at Gorgona Island
April 1(?), 1528 - Puerto Pizarro, Tumbes, Peru - Pizarro lands in Peru
May 3, 1528 - Puerto Pizarro, Tumbes, Peru - Pizarro decides to return to Panama
September 1(?), 1528 - Panama City - Pizarro leaves Panama, crosses the isthmus towards Nombre de Dios
October 1(?), 1528 - Nombre de Dios, Panama - Pizarro sets sail to Spain with Pedro de Candia, taking gold, silver, jewels, llamas and wool
March 1(?), 1529 - Seville, Spain - Pizarro and Pedro de Candia arrive in Sevilla after an uneventful voyage
July 26, 1529 - Toledo - In Spain, Pizarro signs the "Capitulaciones de Toledo" and his future terms, with Isabel I of Portugal (in the absense of Charles V)
January 18, 1530 - Sanlúcar de Barrameda - Pizarro sets sail to La Gomera, Canary Islands, with 3 brothers and Francisco de Orellana, and in possession of a royal letter authorizing the conquest of Peru
January 25(?), 1530 - La Gomera, Canary Islands - Pizarro's fourth brother Hernando joins the expedition and together they set sail to Panama
March(?) 1(?), 1530 - Santa Marta, Colombia - The Pizarro brothers reach the New World and go ashore
April(?) 1(?), 1530 - Nombre de Dios, Panama - Pizarro returns to Nombre de Dios with only 125 men
January 31, 1531 - Panama City - Pizarro sets sail with 3 ships, 180 men and 27 horses, for the Las Perlas Archipelago
April(?)1(?), 1531 - Coaque, Equador - Pizarro arrives in Coaque and finds it abandoned. A base is established
October(?)1(?), 1531 - Portoviejo, Manta, Equador - Pizarro arrives in Portoviejo
March(?) 1(?), 1532 - Tumbes, Peru-Equador - Pizarro arrives in Tumbes and meets Hernando de Soto, just returning from Nicarágua
May 16, 1532 - Piura, Peru - Pizarro infiltrates into Peru, reaching Piura. There he is informed about a civil war
January 5, 1533 - Cajamarca, Peru - Pizarro leaves Cajamarca on his way to Cuzco
January 26, 1533 - Pachacamac, Southeast Lima - Pizarro searches for treasury inside the Palace of Pachacamac
March 1, 1533 - Pachacamac, Southeast Lima - Pizarro leaves Pachacamac
March 17, 1533 - Jauja - Pizarro reaches Jauja
April 25, 1533 - Cajamarca, Peru - Pizarro returns to Cajamarca
July 17, 1533 - Cajamarca - Pizarro mass distributes the spoils among his followers
July 26, 1533 - Cajamarca - Atahualpa is garroted and burned because of Spanish fears that an inca army could be close
August 11, 1533 - Cajamarca - Pizarro and Almagro depart from Cajamarca to the South, with Tupac Huallpa
September 15, 1533 - Recuay (between Cajamarca and Lima) - Pizarro and Almagro reach Recuay and rest for twelve days
October 11, 1533 - Jauja - Pizarro, Almagro and De Soto arrive in Jauja and are welcomed
October 19, 1533 - Jauja - The city is taken after cavalry charges
November 13, 1533 - Vilcaconga (mountain pass) - Pizarro marches to Vilcaconga, passing by De Soto and Almagro
November 15, 1533 - Cuzco - Pizarro enters in Cuzco unopposed
April(?) 1(?), 1534 - Jauja - Pizarro begins assembling an army in Jauja
January 18, 1535 - Lima, Peru - Pizarro founds "Ciudad de los Reyes" on the Coast, soon known as Lima
March 5, 1535 - Trujillo, Peru - Pizarro founds Trujillo
May 29, 1535 - Cuzco - Pizarro arrives in Cuzco to mediate an agreement with Almagro
May 6, 1536 - Sacsayhuaman, Cuzco - 50,000 incas storm Cuzco by dawn
May 16, 1536 - Sacsayhuaman - Height of the fighting. The Spanish manage to break the siege. Pizarro's brother is killed
May 31, 1536 - Sacsayhuaman - Inca attacks loose impetus, although some fights last until August
November 13, 1537 - Mala, South of Lima -

April 6, 1538 - Las Salinas (San Sebastián), Cuzco Valley - Battle of Salinas - Pizarro brothers Gonzalo and Hernando defeat Almagro's followers
July 8, 1538 - Cuzco - Diego de Almagro is executed by strangulation, his dead body decapitated at the Plaza Mayor
December 22, 1538 - Cuzco - Pizarro leaves Cuzco to deal with incas that threatened to cut his connection with the Coast
September(?) 30(?), 1539 - Cuzco - Pizarro returns to Cuzco, from Arequipa
November(?) 1(?), 1539 - Pizarro's envoys are murdered. The Spanish retaliate by killing the Empress, among others
June 26, 1541 - Lima - Francisco Pizarro is assassinated by Diego de Almagro's son =(END)
